Alright, Romeo, your day has come. If you have lofty ideas about how you’re going to propose to Juliet and refuse to settle for anything less than screams, tears and awwwwwwe-evoking romanticism, we will do what we can to help. Romantic=thoughtful and thoughtful=thinking. Yes, it means you’re going to have to think. A recent tale heard by inGroom tells of a man proposing to his lady love outside Starbucks on their first anniversary, the same place they had their first date. He brought along a cake and asked her to open the box. On the cake was a picture of his hand holding a ring box, and when she realized what it meant and turned around, he was on his knee and proposing. Needless to say, the Starbucks crowd ignored their cell phones and lattes for a moment and were swept up in the romanticism of it all. This dude did his homework and THOUGHT about what place had a lot of meaning to them as a couple and then went the extra creative step with the cake.

The key to being romantic is creativity. To avoid the cheesiness that can often accompany the idea of romance is to be thoughtful and choose something meaningful to her or the both of you as a couple. For example, PostSecret.com had some proposal stories in which a chap knew that his lady loved to look at that specific site and would check it every Sunday when it was updated. He sent in a postcard that she would recognize that said, “Will You Marry Me”, and when she turned around from the computer, he was down on one knee with the ring. Another option is to utilize any talents you possess. If you’re a musician, write her a song. If you’re an artist, create something unique for her. If you’re a writer, write her a poem or create a storybook about the two of you and at the end, have the proposal. You see where we’re going with this.

Some links can be found at The Knot . Beware: “romantic”= horribly cheesy in some of these, read them for their humor as well as their helpfulness!
